2018 Fast and Furriest®

On Saturday, June 2, 2018, Rochester Animal Services (RAS) and Verona Street Animal Society held their annual fundraiser, The Fast & The Furriest®. The 10K and 5K races attracted more than 600 runners. Mark Andrews (34:33) was the top overall winner in the 10K race and Darren Schutt (17:31) took top honors in the 5K.

There were many highlights from the day. The vaccination/microchip/license clinic was very popular. Throughout the event, we vaccinated and microchipped 200 pets and licensed 46 dogs. Thank you, pet owners, for your patience waiting in the long lines for these important services. Please make sure all of your microchip information is registered and up to date with 24PetWatch (866-597-2424). There were more than 200 walkers and their pooches in the dog walk, including current shelter dogs and RAS alumni. Travis Fitch provided music throughout the day to complement the festive environment. Everyone enjoyed a few laughs as we watched pets and their owners participate in the pet contests. Overall, the best part for us is that 13 animals from our shelter found new homes!

Together, we raised tens of thousands of dollars to help serve animals and people in our community. We are grateful to all of the participants, donors, sponsors, vendors and volunteers for their ongoing support of our annual event. Thank you!
