Event Summary

What a great day we had!  On Saturday June 12, 2010 we held our fourth annual race and dog walk fundraiser to benefit the Animal Services Center.  Although the weather threatened early and we dodged some early morning sprinkles, it shaped up to be a beautiful day. There were 199 runners, and over 250 dog walkers. We are still tallying registrations, pledges, donations and sponsorships and will have our gross proceeds posted shortly. The pet contests were popular and the attendees seemed to enjoy that new feature.

The event drew some extra attention to the Animal Services Center at 184 Verona Street. On the day of the event there were four dogs and four cats adopted to new homes. Thanks you to all of the volunteers and sponsors who made this event possible.

Teams and individuals help raise money

We also had a team category for participants.  Forming a team is a great way to demonstrate your organization's support for the animal shelter without any added expense.  There were 11 teams registered this year.  The B.T. Cruisers were the largest team with eight registered participants.  Xerox Team 2010 was responsible for raising the most pledge dollars due in part to Carol Giotto, the top individual pledge earner. Carol raised $855 in pledges, followed by Mary Wilson at $520, and Theresa Pearson at $225.

Entertainment

We again featured live music in Brown Square Park as the runners were completing the race. Local musician Travis Fitch will began performing during the race and continued until all of the runners were in. Then, after the race awards ceremony, Potato Pan Otis took the stage and played acoustic tunes during the dog walk until we began the pledges awards ceremony and pet contest.

The 2nd Annual Frosty Paws Winter Carnival was another success attracting over 200 attendees and grossing over $27,000. Thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters who joined us on Saturday January 23, 2010 for an evening of musical fare, mystic carnival entertainment and great food and wine. In support of Rochester's furry friends, the Frosty Paws Winter Carnival included a live and silent auction, tarot card reader, caricature artist, handwriting analysis, face painting, photo booth, stilt walker, jugglers, and animal psychic all among the magnificent artistic surroundings of ARTISANworks! It was a lot of fun so keep your eyes open for next year's winter fundraiser. Also, the name of this event is likely to change so let us know if you have an idea for a new one. If your event name is selected, you will win a pair of tickets to next year's fundraiser. Send your event names by email now.

Cable TV Feature - Pets On Demand

Time Warner Cable's local On Demand channel- Rochester On Demand channel 111- will now carry a bi-weekly series that highlights the animals available for adoption at the Animal Services Center. People interested in seeing the cats and dogs that are up for adoption, can now see a selection of 6-10 adoptable animals right on their TV. The show will be updated twice every month.

Time Warner Cable's local On Demand channel was a perfect fit for getting the word out about these adorable pets that are in need of a good home. People can see a short clip of the animal in action simply by going to Digital Cable channel 111 and choosing the "Pets" category. Once there, choose the "Adopt-A-Pet" show.

Rochester On Demand is currently pursuing additional shows that serve the local community to compliment the current selection of entertainment on the channel. Stay tuned for more updates.
