Our Outreach Team works in conjunction with Animal Control Officers (ACOs) to engage in pro-active efforts to provide information and assistance to pet owners and address concerns before they escalate. Teams visit neighborhoods and chat with citizens about their pets or their concerns. Door-to-door activities are used for specific areas where significant concerns have been identified relative to high rates of pet surrenders, stray and feral cats, loose dogs and other challenges. This pro-active approach involves friendly communication, building relationships, offering assistance and sharing information to resolve issues and help owners keep their pets safe and secure at home.

The outreach initiative involves:

  • Teams of ACOs and volunteers visiting neighborhoods
  • Talking with people about pets
  • Providing information and referrals
  • Providing direct assistance

Teams share information about the following topics and others related to companion animals:

  • Leash walking
  • Housetraining
  • Bringing pets inside
  • Cat scratching posts
  • Dog licensing
  • Spay/neuter
