Dr Newmark

Veterinarian of the Year award

Written by Christopher S. Fitzgerald, Director of Animal Services

Last week, Dr. Andrew Newmark, head veterinarian of Rochester Animal Services, received the Veterinarian of the Year Award from the Genesee Valley Veterinary Medical Association (GVVMA).  This award is given to the GVVMA member who, over the course of many years, served the regional , state society, and veterinary profession in an exemplary and distinguished manner and who is judged by his/her peers to be the most deserving of such recognition. Dr. Newmark served as the  head veterinarian at the Humane Society of Rochester and Monroe County at Lollypop Farm for 15 years before joining our team in August 2014. During his tenure at Lollypop Farm, Dr. Newmark grew their shelter medicine program virtually from scratch into one of the industry leaders that shelters across the country seek to emulate.

In the short time that he has been with Rochester Animal Services, Dr. Newmark has helped make significant improvements to the care and well being of animals at the City’s shelter and he continues to be instrumental in the advancements that Animal Services makes as we strive to become leaders in the government animal shelter arena. He is an asset to our organization and we are so grateful to have him. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Newmark for his well-deserved award.
