Best Friends Animal Society Awards Verona Street Animal Society a $25,000 Grant to Support City Animal Services Outreach

Verona Street Animal Society (VSAS) President Jennifer Brown announced today that VSAS has been awarded a $25,000 grant from Best Friends Animal Society. This grant will support the community outreach program administered by the City’s Animal Services Bureau. The funds will be used to cover spay and neuter costs for income-qualifying City residents. Animal Services representatives will provide vouchers to pet owners in need. These vouchers will be redeemable at the Rochester Community Animal Clinic.  Another portion of the grant will help to spay and neuter community cats in the 19th Ward.

“This grant provides the resources we need to address some of the primary concerns  about overpopulation,” said Jennifer Brown, President of Verona Street Animal Society. “I want to thank Best Friends Animal Society for supporting our efforts to help residents and their pets. These funds will encourage pet retention, reduce shelter intakes, and enhance animal wellness.”

“This grant will help expand our community outreach efforts by enabling us to remove financial barriers to pet sterilization,” said Chris Fitzgerald, Director of Animal Services.  “We want to help people keep their pets safe and secure in their homes and spaying and neutering is critical to that goal.”
