BISSELL Pet Foundation Awards nearly $5,000 to Verona Street Animal Society

Rochester, N.Y., January 5, 2018 – The Verona Street Animal Society (VSAS) announced this week that it was awarded a $4,746.50 grant from BISSELL Pet Foundation to assist in its mission to support Rochester Animal Services.  The grant will be used for the veterinary care necessary to ensure the health of shelter dogs and cats prior to adoption. 350 animals and countless families will benefit from this grant.

Providing a forever home is a significant decision for families and individuals, and Rochester Animal Services takes the necessary steps to ensure new furry family members are as healthy as possible. All cats are tested for feline leukemia prior to adoption, and dogs are tested for canine parvovirus when symptomatic.  The grant awarded by BISSELL Pet Foundation will be used to purchase these important tests and will enable VSAS to allocate its limited funds, primarily received from private donors, to other areas of need – i.e. adoption promotions, medical safety net, no-cost spay and neuter services, behavioral assistance.

“The greatest reward is to help our partners save thousands of animals’ lives each year by supporting their efforts,” explains Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “We hope to see the day when every pet has a loving, forever home.”

“The generous grant from BISSELL Pet Foundation will enable us to perform diagnostic tests (Parvo and FeLV/FIV) on more animals to ensure their health on their way to forever homes while identifying life-threatening diseases in a timely manner,” remarked Diedra Kirk, Director, Marketing & Development Chair, Verona Street Animal Society.

VSAS is a 100% volunteer-based, non-profit partner organization that was established to help with fundraising and promotions to support Rochester Animal Services. Together, they have reunited missing pets with their owners, rehomed unwanted pets, supported pet retention, and facilitated forever homes for around 3500 of Rochester’s dogs and cats in 2017.
