COVID-19: An Update from the Director of Animal Services

Dear Friends,

In response to the recent Citywide declaration of State of Emergency, Rochester Animal Services will be continuing services to the public on a limited basis. We are asking for your help in limiting the number of people through the shelter for the immediate future.

  • There are still wonderful animals in need of loving homes at our facility on Verona Street, so visit the Rochester Animal Services website to see pets available for adoption. We will be continuing adoptions by appointment at this time. If you are interested in adopting a pet, please contact us by email or at 585-428-7274.
  • If you need to surrender a pet, please visit the Rochester Animal Services website and contact us first. We are limiting animal intake to prioritize emergency situations and help the neediest pets first.
  • Please refrain from visiting the shelter if you are not doing the above. All reading programs and shelter tours are canceled through the end of March. We will not be accepting drop-off wish list items at this time, though you can still help provide for the pets in our care by visiting our Amazon Wish List or Shelter Pet Bed program. We hope this will ensure our staff and volunteers can continue caring for animals in need with minimal disruption.
  • If you would like to make a donation to support our continued operations visit the VSAS donation page or if you have any other questions, please contact RAS by email or at 585-428-7274.

The following services continue to be available to our community: Animal Control – Field Services, end-of-life services by appointment, spay/neuter appointments, and Lost-and-Found by appointment only.

As always, Rochester Animal Services practices vigilant cleaning and disinfection for the prevention of disease. We will continue to maintain this standard and increase cleaning and sanitization protocols for public spaces, as needed.

We appreciate your ongoing support as we continue serving the pets and people in our community.  We look forward to resuming full operations soon.

Please check the Rochester Animal Services website for updates on hours, information, and our adoptable animals.

Thank you for your support.

Christopher S. Fitzgerald, Director, Rochester Animal Services
